How tax receipts work with Hasanah

Tax receipts matter because a roundup app can include both charitable and non-charitable amounts in the same overall flow. Hasanah separates those pieces clearly: the nonprofit handles the receipt, and the receipt should only reflect the charitable portion.

Who sends the receipt

The recipient nonprofit organization, not Hasanah, is responsible for issuing any donor tax receipt or charitable acknowledgment where applicable.

What the receipt should reflect

The receipt should reflect only the amount treated as a charitable contribution to the nonprofit, not any amount retained by Hasanah as a platform fee or optional tip.

Why app history is not enough on its own

Donation history, fee history, tip history, and payment records shown in the service may not be enough on their own for tax substantiation. They are useful records, but they are not automatically a substitute for the nonprofit's acknowledgment.

More questions

Can I use Hasanah's activity feed as my only tax record?

Not necessarily. Those convenience records may not satisfy tax substantiation requirements by themselves.

Do platform fees count as charitable giving?

No. Charitable acknowledgments should reflect only the amount treated as a charitable contribution, not the retained fee or optional tip.

Should I talk to a tax advisor?

Yes. If deductibility matters for your records, it is worth checking with a tax advisor.
